An intense, clean and direct wine, which opens from the onset in anticipation of the varietal’s full potential: primary aromas are accompanied by wood in the form of vanilla but not as the leading component.
CASAR DE BURBIA
We are a family-run winery from the region El Bierzo (Spain), which has been making wines in the traditional way for more than two decades We make our wines with Mencía and Godello grapes from vineyards located in the Camino de Santiago. El Bierzo, located in the North-West of Spain, is a mountainous region crossed by the Road to Santiago (Way of Saint James): Natural Heritage, History, Tradition, Gastronomy, … The extreme mountain feature is what makes it, together with its climate and soil, one of the ideal regions worldwide to grow vineyards The old vines grow in mountainous terrain, characterised by red, slate-rich soils, which give our wines all of their flavour, aroma and body. The vineyard covering 27 hectares, the majority of whose vines are more than a hundred years old. It lies alongside the pilgrims’ route of the Way of St. James in the area of Valtuille de Arriba. Casar de Burbia is a winery that focuses on quality in the excellent expression of its wines, proof of the constant efforts made to capture all of the essences provided by the privileged terroir of El Bierzo.

In the mouth it reveals itself as thick, tannic and delicious, with a slight acidic note, which, as well as lively and vivacious, predicts a long shelf life. Raspberry and strawberry dominate over the American oak induced vanilla. An intense, clean and direct wine, which opens from the onset in anticipation of the varietal’s full potential: primary aromas are accompanied by wood in the form of vanilla but not as the leading component.
The nose displays very fine ageing notes of vanilla, coconut, cooking chocolate, and pipe tobacco, accompanied by plenty of fruit compote, all reaching a perfect balance. Very full in the mouth, succulent, no rough edges, and elegant tannins.
Fresh, pleasant and elegant on the palate. Mouth filling yet fresh and silky with abundant fruit. Sweet tannins, very pleasant, balanced and full bodied. The fresh wild mountain bouquet returns in the aftertaste (rosemary, thyme, flowers) and the pleasant fruity balsamics give way to a lingering elegant finish.
Brilliant red-purple hue, good depth with plenty of glycerine legs due to its strength. Exhilarating aromas of blackcurrant preserve and caramelised plumbs are enhanced by Asian spices and floral notes of violets.
Unctuous with moderate acidity, good volume and a heavy presence of fruit. Noble, full-bodied, and very well balanced tannins, despite its youth. A whirlwind of fruit sensations return in retro-olfaction, while pleasant mineral and balsamic hints give way to a long and elegant finish.
