LOMAS DEL MARQUES
Lomas del Marqués (literally the Hills of the Marquis) refers to small hillocks located within a marquisate. These lands were of exceptional quality and therefore used for growing vineyards and olive groves, while the flatlands were used for pasture or cereals —mainly wheat and barley. More than three centuries ago, the lands of Villamediana, Agoncillo, Murillo de Río Leza and Alberite, in central Rioja, were distributed among three different Marquises.
Cristofer Ruiz was born in Logroño on February 21, 1976 in a family with a long tradition of wine-growers. Passionate about the vineyard and wine from a very early, Cristofer has worked eight years as winemaker at Bodegas Criadores de Rioja and Lomas del Marqués where he has spent his entire professional career. “It’s hard to choose by a particular style of wine. I think that for every moment there is a type of wine. However, I appreciate a good foundation of tradition combined with a modern touch. I enjoy a wine in which wood does not mask or the varietal character and fruit, and that is round, velvety and leave a good memory in the mouth. In my opinion, everything is a mirror of the current Rioja”.
